Dr. Thomas W. Kennedy, age 79, passed away on September 3, 2017, after a 20 year struggle following a massive stroke. Tom persevered through all of his health challenges with grace and a smile on his face. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all he met. Tom never met a stranger.

Tom was born in Danville, Illinois on January 7, 1938. He graduated from Paris High School in 1956 where he excelled in both academics and basketball. He received his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois...

Dr. Thomas W. Kennedy, age 79, passed away on September 3, 2017, after a 20 year struggle following a massive stroke. Tom persevered through all of his health challenges with grace and a smile on his face. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all he met. Tom never met a stranger.

Tom was born in Danville, Illinois on January 7, 1938. He graduated from Paris High School in 1956 where he excelled in both academics and basketball. He received his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1965 and accepted a position on the civil engineering faculty of the University of Texas at Austin. He enjoyed a long and distinguished teaching career which spanned 37 years. He served as the Associate Vice- President for the University and Associate Dean for Research for the College of Engineering. Tom received numerous honors and was especially proud of being an honorary member of the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists and being an Asphalt Institute Roll of Honor recipient. Tom also was known worldwide for his work in asphalt research and was the principal author of over 400 published engineering technical reports.

Tom is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Charles Kennedy; his mother, Lassie Shaw Kennedy and the mother of his daughters, Patricia Joyce Kennedy.
Survivors include his daughters, Susan Kennedy Tuttle and husband Garry, of Austin and Patricia Kay Kennedy of Austin; and his grandchildren, Bryan Tuttle and wife Kori, of Cedar Park, Kristen Tuttle Urbanovsky and husband Chris, of Elgin, Michael Kennedy Dunn and Patricia Kolby Dunn of Austin. He is also survived by his precious great- grandchildren, Parker and Payton Tuttle.

A celebration of Tom's life will be held at Hope Presbyterian Church located at 11512 Olson Drive, Austin, Texas on Saturday, September 23 at 2:00 p.m.
Memorial donations may be sent to Hope Children's Center, 11512 Olson Drive, Austin, Texas 78750 where his daughters are on staff and his grandchildren and great- grandchildren learn and experience God's love.
